So. Auckland Armageddon, 2009.

First: the new venue )

Otherwise: Gigi Edgley is adorable and so awesome, and she has a fiance who is also awesome and rides a 12 foot unicycle. Jason Momoa was wearing an All Blacks shirt on Saturday. Both Jason Momoa and Joe Flanigan seemed pretty sure the Atlantis movie won't go ahead. Jason played the guitar. There were more vampires present than usual and Twilight merchandise at what felt like every second stall.

pics under cut )

ETA:

Things that made me happy:

* parents there with their kids
* especially the cute Jedi kids at the 501st Legion
* girls digging through boxes of comics
* listening to people talk about Stargate and BSG and Farscape
* getting awesome action figures at great prices, including Kat from BSG who I was not prepared to pay full price for, but got knocked down on the last afternoon
* so many people of all ages

Things I wish I'd done

* not missed Paul McGillion's panel
* gone to the Robot Chicken panel and signing because Seth Green
* had my photo taken with the 'Stargate Trio' - Joe Flanigan, Jason Momoa, Paul McGillion
* asked if they'd sell me the Joe Flanigan poster that Jason and Paul decorated (how awesome would that be? I bet someone scored it)

So Amanda Tapping is out for this year's Armageddon (Auckland and Melbourne) and has been replaced by... Joe Flanigan. Who has nice hair and is a very nice man, but was here two years ago.

Look on the bright side: I've got JF's autograph, so I will be spending slightly less money this year (or will have more money to spend on something else).

I almost subjected you all to a long rambling about my Swallows and Amazons books, and whether I should buy a particular copy of Missee Lee (one of the three I don't have) that is the same hard-to-find edition as the rest of the series, but is covered in clear film and has library markings on the spine. But while I was writing I realised I could not tolerate either film or markings, that I will likely not be able to remove either without completely ruining the cover and thus defeating the purpose, and that I'd rather wait two/three years for another copy rather than have to look at this one.

So you don't get the rambling after all. Probably you should be thankful.

In more delightful news, according to the Armageddon Facebook group and Twitter, Gigi Edgley has been booked for Auckland this year. She hasn't yet made the actual website, but: Chiana!

Oh, this is going to be an expensive autograph year, isn't it? I'm up to four, assuming none of them pull out.

So. According to Bill (event organiser guy) over at the Armageddon forums the line-up for this year's Auckland Armageddon is set to include Jason Momoa, Paul McGillion and Amanda Tapping.

I'll be over here. In my corner. Dying of glee.

Amanda Tapping, people.

Tomorrow, I will be very, very aware of the whole 'work and health committments pending' disclaimer. Today I am being Fangirl Girl.

(...Amanda Tapping!)

Apparently I have no Sam icons uploaded. Basic account, six icon slots, blah blah blah, here have some Lorne. He's pretty too, and appropriate as I spent much of the last Armageddon staring at Kavan Smith from a distance.

... Armageddon is doing my head in. Gary Jones has been added, David Anders is out due to work committments, and now we get a showing of A Dog's Breakfast instead, introduced by David Hewlett. Which I am okay with as a consolation prize. *g*

(I'm so glad I don't have to sort all that stuff out.)

Also, tomorrow(!)

I have to prepare. See, we're supposed to have horrendously bad weather tomorrow, so I have to wear something appropriate for waiting at the train station and walking up Queen Street in the rain that will not cause me to die of heat exhaustion cooped up in the Aotea Centre with hundreds of other people. And if I take a book for the train, I have to carry it around all day. And I need some way to get my autographs safely as far as Britomart in what may or may not be a howling gale. And a camera, and food to keep my blood sugar levels from going insane, and panadol for the inevitable headache from so many people in what becomes an incredibly small space once all the stalls are jammed in...

In real life, I am the most disorganized person I know, although you might not believe it from what I just wrote.

Well, Armageddon time means time for "look at the weirdos" articles in the NZ Herald. Yesterday's entertainment supplement had interviews with Doug Jones and Margot Kidder, a list of highlights including "lots of people wandering around in costumes" and a "Five Ways To Talk To The Natives" bit offering Helpful Phrases in Klingon, Ancient, Krytonian, Galactic Basic and Sindarin.

This is why people think I'm weird. They're all about the stereotype of the crazy fan, while at the same time inferring that one should go to Armageddon just to see the crazy people.

Yeah, the talking to the natives bit really got under my skin for a few reasons.

Michael Shanks is out for Armageddon. Kavan Smith is in.

Which I am a little disappointed about, because Michael Shanks, but then again, these things happen. Also, Kavan Smith is really, really pretty and well up there on my list of People I Want To Meet, so I can't be too upset.

Also, for once I have a semi-appropriate icon. See? Pretty.

Michael Shanks and David Anders added to the lineup for Auckland Armageddon.

*is incoherent*

(pleasedon'tletthemcancelpleasedon'tletthemcancelpleasedon'tletthemcancel)

Also David Hewlett, for those who may be interested. I am not uninterested in David Hewlett, I am just sitting here going Michael Shanks OMG. And David Anders. In the same place.

Don't mind me, I'm just having a fangirl moment.

I was going to write this Sam/Cam fic, and in my head it had lots of awesome dialogue and it was going to be really really cool. So why is it that when I sat down to write it out, most of it had vanished from my mind and the bits that I could remember proved to be incredibly lame?

Oh, brain.

But Sam and Cam? Freaking adorable. Seriously.

Also, Armageddon. Joe Flanigan was pretty and told us about his escape from a great white shark. Chris Judge was pretty and told us why he's afraid of polar bears.

They talked about Stargate, too.

So, Harry Potter day. I went to Borders at Sylvia Park, and sat in line for an hour and a half. There were clips on 3 News, but I didn't see me. I was about thirty people from the front and spent most of the time reading a Mary Higgins Clark book I grabbed off the table. My favourite source of amusement was the middle-aged woman behind me telling the people around her that she was only in line for the Beanie Baby owl they were giving out free with the books.

It was good fun, really. There's nothing like listening to announcements (every fifteen minutes) from a woman dressed as Umbridge, or receiving your book from Mad-Eye Moody.

More on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows )

And now for something non-Harry Potter related from the Armageddon website: We also hope to be able to announce a special Serenity/Stargate Con for September, stay tuned! That's short notice, but it sounds fairly likely to go ahead if they're announcing even a possibility of it, right? I am so there, people. Er, assuming it goes ahead, and also assuming it's in Auckland.

Aaron Douglas is going to be at the Wellington Armageddon this year. This probably means that I'm going to be there too, because OMG Tyrol.
