So, Harry Potter day. I went to Borders at Sylvia Park, and sat in line for an hour and a half. There were clips on 3 News, but I didn't see me. I was about thirty people from the front and spent most of the time reading a Mary Higgins Clark book I grabbed off the table. My favourite source of amusement was the middle-aged woman behind me telling the people around her that she was only in line for the Beanie Baby owl they were giving out free with the books.

It was good fun, really. There's nothing like listening to announcements (every fifteen minutes) from a woman dressed as Umbridge, or receiving your book from Mad-Eye Moody.

And now for something non-Harry Potter related from the Armageddon website: We also hope to be able to announce a special Serenity/Stargate Con for September, stay tuned! That's short notice, but it sounds fairly likely to go ahead if they're announcing even a possibility of it, right? I am so there, people. Er, assuming it goes ahead, and also assuming it's in Auckland.

The obligatory book 7 spoiler policy post:

I'm doing the paranoia thing this time round. I was spoiled for Serenity - through my own carelessness rather than a deliberate action on someone else's part - and I don't wish to repeat the experience.

You guys tend to be pretty good with spoilers so I don't feel like I need to say "don't spoil me". But if you do it won't be pretty. *g* I've made commenting friends only and dumped a heap of communities with unmoderated posting until after I've read the book.

Unfortunately, I don't have the willpower to stay off the internet entirely.

I wish we got midnight release here, but sadly midnight in fun places is 11am Saturday here. So I'm going to Borders, wearing blue and silver ribbons in my hair, killing time for about two hours from the time the shop opens (apparently Gloria Jeans is doing breakfast) and then as soon as I get my book I'm going straight home to read it without stopping.

*is excited* (possibly more for the Potterdammerung than anything else, but anyway it's going to be a fun weekend)
