So, Harry Potter day. I went to Borders at Sylvia Park, and sat in line for an hour and a half. There were clips on 3 News, but I didn't see me. I was about thirty people from the front and spent most of the time reading a Mary Higgins Clark book I grabbed off the table. My favourite source of amusement was the middle-aged woman behind me telling the people around her that she was only in line for the Beanie Baby owl they were giving out free with the books.

It was good fun, really. There's nothing like listening to announcements (every fifteen minutes) from a woman dressed as Umbridge, or receiving your book from Mad-Eye Moody.

The more I think about it, there are more bits I really like and more unanswered questions. Who killed Emmeline Vance? Was TRA Travers, or traitor meaning Snape? What happened to Crookshanks? Where did Hestia and Dedalus take the Dursleys, and what happened to them? Did Hermione go to Australia and bring her parents back? Who raised Teddy Lupin? And did he have any lasting issues from having a werewolf for a father? Were Oliver, Angelina, Alicia and Katie part of the Order of the Phoenix?

So Snape did love Lily. Huh.

I keep going back to Teddy Lupin, for some reason. I guess I find it hard to understand Tonks rushing off into that battle knowing quite well that to do so could leave Teddy an orphan. I get that she was worried about Remus and that, like Ginny, she didn't want to sit on the sidelines while everyone else risked their lives, but she had a responsibility to Teddy. I'm not advocating that the women stay in the kitchen and look after the kids and let the men do the fighting, but... that poor baby, you know? I want to know who killed Tonks - was it Bella? Was Remus already dead when she rushed into battle?

I loved the Trio tramping round England, hanging out in the tent, that sense of isolation and disconnection. I did struggle with the passing of time, though: when Lupin appeared at Bill's and said Tonks had had the baby I was like what, already? I love that Ron came back and I love that things weren't right without him.

I love the Weasleys so much. Fred's reaction to Percy's return. Molly's reaction to Bellatrix's attempt to kill Ginny. And oh, Fred. And George. I can't imagine how hard it would be for him, to be alone when he's never been alone before, to be a twin but not a twin.

Neville is the awesomest thing ever, and the Hogwarts resistance is fantastic. I wish we'd seen something of their day to day life.

Oh, Dobby. I loved that Harry dug his grave, and the words on the stone: Here lies Dobby, a free elf.

And Hedwig. That one really got me because I just didn't expect her to die, and I didn't know that I cared about her until she did.

Flying motorbike! I was so glad to see that come back.

I'm still "meh" on the epilogue, not only because it reminds me of my own bad HP fic but because there's so much she could have told us, and we get the kids' names? What did Harry end up doing with his life, apart from having kids? What about Ginny, Ron, Hermione? How did Hogwarts change? Did George keep running Weasley's Wizarding Wheezes? Who was Draco's wife?

And why did Harry give his kids such bad names? I know, I know, he was honouring people important to him, but I guess I just kind of think, give the kids their own first name, you know? One that's their own. Give them Lily and James as middle names. And Albus Severus.

I guess I'd just like more on what happened to various people: Katie, Angelina, Lavender, Seamus, Dean, the professors. One thing about the book, there's a lot of room for fic.

And now for something non-Harry Potter related from the Armageddon website: We also hope to be able to announce a special Serenity/Stargate Con for September, stay tuned! That's short notice, but it sounds fairly likely to go ahead if they're announcing even a possibility of it, right? I am so there, people. Er, assuming it goes ahead, and also assuming it's in Auckland.

Okay, so the Weasleys were just made of win. Molly Weasley is my hero. And I love Ron more than ever - he's so hilarious and his insecurities are great and he takes advice from romance self-help books and just, gah.

Hedwig's death really got me. Border's and their white owls - jesus. Not appropriate. I teared up over Dobby and Fred as well. I wanted to know what they were doing with their lives. Is Harry an Auror? But I liked the conversation Harry had with Albus - very sweet. And Ron was awesome in the epilogue.

Yes, the Weasleys. They were all awesome and I even loved Percy. And Molly! Molly!

Yes, Dobby and Fred, and Dobby's gravestone, and his funeral - ow ow ow. I love the idea of Ron sitting a Muggle driving test.

I finished the book a little while ago. I thought it was slow at times, and rushed at other times. And like you, those questions you mentioned came to mind. I like certain scenes in DH, but I can't say this book is my favorite in the series.

I think I need to read it again to really make up my mind on it, because I rushed through and read it in four hours. The unanswered questions bother me, but the more I think about it the more I just end up squeeing about the awesomeness of the characters. I have no idea which is my favourite, I'm indecisive like that. *g*

I missed Crookshanks too - was there even a mention of him? While I agree with you about Tonks, somewhat, I'm thinking her mother was still alive and she brought Teddy up, with input from godfather!Harry. At least, I don't remember her being dead, which brought in Neville parallels.

the Hogwarts resistance is fantastic. I wish we'd seen something of their day to day life. Word. I was resigned to not getting much of Hogwarts until the final fight, but those references were so tantalising. I loved the DA in OotP and the combo of Neville, Luna and Ginny.

Yeah, I'm sure Tonks's mother raised Teddy, I just feel so bad for him. I think Harry would have been a great godfather though, knowing what it would be like for Teddy not to know his parents.

Neville, Luna and Ginny could take over the world if they wanted. They're awesome.
