nothing but the rain

Find a perfect planet for the end of Kara Thrace, end of line.
Well, there was less death than I expected. In fact, the whole thing was not what I expected: I was expecting ninety minutes of war with Cavil and his gang ending with everyone dead.
Biggest peeve? The lack of resolution re: Kara. But I think Lee always knew he'd never hold onto Kara. Clearly, she is now an ascended being and every time Daniel Jackson dies she challenges him to a drinking competition, which she wins because Daniel is a lightweight, and also fascinated by her.
Ahem.
So Maggie died, but I saw that coming. I never expected her to make it this far, and I thought for sure we wouldn't see her again after 'Blood on the Scales'. I love that she and Skulls had one last piece of luck, and managed to posthumously destroy the Colony. If she'd known, she would have loved it. Not only did she go down fighting, she managed to, you know, take out the Colony. No, Maggie, arming the nukes was not a mistake.
I thought we'd lost Helo. In some ways, I think we should have done: in the end, what price did we pay for the attack on the Colony? We lost Racetrack and Skulls, and 'Vipers', and 'Raptor crews', and nameless, faceless people. Yeah, it was great to see the happy little family on Earth, but I can't help feeling we got off too lightly. Yes, I'm complaining that not enough people died.
President Lampkin and Admiral Hoshi! Loved it.
I started crying when our ships headed for the sun. Empty spaceships, broken spaceships, dying spaceships all have that effect on me. But what a way to go out. Also, when Adama said that Mr Anders would be piloting them into the sun I was all 'who the hell is that?' The only Mr Anders I could think of was David Anders and it took me a second or two to remember that Sark is not on this show. But oh, Sam. How did we know Sam wanted to fly into the sun? I mean, I get that he's basically the ship now, but still. And I love that Adama referred to him as 'Mr Anders'. It felt... humanising, I guess. Like one tiny bit of honour for the man who was about to lead the fleet into glory. Into perfection.
I'm surprised at Bill leaving his crew - and his son - behind. After everything they meant to him he just let them scatter across the whole earth? I don't know. Remember 'Home', when he put the Fleet back together? Yeah. I hope he and Lee found each other again, one day.
I also liked Cavil's suicide. It felt right for Cavil, fitting with that moment back in 'Lay Down Your Burdens' when the Cavil who'd been counseling Tyrol and was strenously protesting his non-Cylonicity saw the Caprica Cavil and was all "OK then". It was like one big "OK then" moment. YMMV, of course.
RDM's cameo was jarring. Oh, Ron Moore, we know what you look like.
"What do you hear, Starbuck?" "Nothing but the rain."
What a long, crazy, painful, wonderful ride this has been.
End of line.
