(no subject)

I almost subjected you all to a long rambling about my Swallows and Amazons books, and whether I should buy a particular copy of Missee Lee (one of the three I don't have) that is the same hard-to-find edition as the rest of the series, but is covered in clear film and has library markings on the spine. But while I was writing I realised I could not tolerate either film or markings, that I will likely not be able to remove either without completely ruining the cover and thus defeating the purpose, and that I'd rather wait two/three years for another copy rather than have to look at this one.

So you don't get the rambling after all. Probably you should be thankful.

In more delightful news, according to the Armageddon Facebook group and Twitter, Gigi Edgley has been booked for Auckland this year. She hasn't yet made the actual website, but: Chiana!

Oh, this is going to be an expensive autograph year, isn't it? I'm up to four, assuming none of them pull out.

I don't own nearly enough Swallows & Amazons books. In fact I only have seven. I keep mooching them as they come up on Bookmooch (which isn't very often) but I don't want to buy any because I'm kind of waiting for the day when I can afford this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Swallows-Amazons-Arthur-Ransome-Boxed/dp/B000KPJ4F2), although I don't know if I could ever justify spending £150 on books.

Ooh, very nice. I love those covers - I think maybe because the library books I first read all had those covers. I've thought about buying some second-hand but, yeah, can't really justify having two copies of each book at this point.

*goes and looks*

They are rare, but I'm sure you'll be able to find an unmarked version of the yellow and blue covers again - I collected a set of that version for a friend about 10 years ago.

I should get back to collecting a set for myself again. I think I want the previous edition , with the stick figure pictures (like the other other Missee Lee that's up at the moment) because that's what my first book was/is (We Didn't Mean To Go To Sea). But so far I only have four, and they might be a mix of the two covers.

I've actually been surprised at how hard it is to find the blue/yellow cover versions. I had about six of the books from childhood, and over the last five-six years I've only come across two of the other five. It doesn't help that the ones I'm trying to find - Missee Lee, Coot Club and the Big Six - are probably less popular/rarer than some of the others.

I'm not normally this obsessive about books in a series matching. I think because I have so many in one edition I feel like any other version would stand out and annoy me - as, apparently, would library markings.

Just looked at the Armageddon site and she is now on there :)

Ooh, so she is.

It needs to be October now.

LOL. I see they are prebooking the dinners and Amanda Tapping's has sold out.
