Wow. Just wow. I'm tearing up. This wonderfully creates an idea of what it would have been like for Kaylee and the Captain to go back. Everything sounds like her voice.
Hammock's been burned up, and it seems silly that she should be sad about such a little thing, when there are hammocks for sale on every planet in the 'verse.
This is a very Whedonesque observation - that it is the tiny details which cause a person to break down, not the big stuff.

Her fairy lights ain't on, out like the rest of the electrics, but her sign's still there. Feels like a million years ago she painted that, back when she was just a girl.
I like this line very much: the idea that she has grown up in the year or so she's been on Serenity.

I always think of Mal, Kaylee and Wash having a seperate relationship with the ship to the others: they're the ones who get their knuckles grazed fixing her, so it makes sense to have just Mal and Kaylee come back.
